News Corp.’s IGN has quietly rolled out Greenpixels.com, a new content Web site geared for the fast growing universe of casual gamers, which includes a substantial number of women.
The site, which is currently live in beta form, is clearly aimed at the mainstream game player who is more inclined to spend time with Rock Band, the Nintendo Wii or online puzzle games like Peggle–which appeal to both men and women. As the site’s editor in chief Dana Jongewaard, puts it in her introductory note on the site, “This is no longer just a past-time for adolescent(-acting) boys and basement-dwelling social outcasts.”

News Corp. Wants an Ad Network Too? November 12, 2007

News Corp.’s Fox Interactive Media is getting ready to roll out an ad network for selling space across its collection of web properties, including MySpace, IGN, and Photobucket. This isn’t entirely surprising, considering the efforts that printed media have begun to put forth as a way of monetizing their ever-growing online presence, and MySpace’s recent announcement of a self-serve advertising option that will leverage networks created within the online community.
FIM is hoping to incorporated other News Corp. properties, like the New York Post, which will merely extend the advertising options for marketers looking for a concentrated manner in which to distribute targeted ads. The ad network should be ready in the first half of 2008, and there are reports that News Corp. is hoping to extend its ad network to sell space on third-party sites outside of its own internal web properties as well.
So with everyone hoping to become a more established ad network, can the market support it?
